We left Taku Harbor this morning at 8:00 am for a two and a half hour cruise to Juneau. The picture above was taken last night in Taku Harbor of a cruise ship in the distance. Cruising into Juneau we were expecting a city/town being something like a cross between Ketchikan and Petersburg. The reality was quite different. Walking into “historic” downtown Juneau was quite disappointing. There definitely was not the vibe of Ketchikan or the unique home town feel of Petersburg. Downtown Juneau is more like a Vegas for cruise ships, littered with shop and after shop of tee shirts and jewelry; There is a lot more to see but this was our first impression.
Tomorrow we are meeting one of Marlene’s quilting friends who lives here in Juneau and will show us around the city and give us the chance to pick up a few needed items. What we are most excited about is joining in the Celebration of the local tribes for their festival over the next four days.

For now, we are happy to be tucked in at Harris Harbor, out of the weather that continues to rage throughout SE Alaska!
