Today is our final day in Petersburg before we continue our journey north. This morning we took a long walk and then had breakfast at The Salty Pantry (14 Harbor Way). This is a “not to miss.” Everything is fresh made, fresh baked. Both Marlene and I had their quiche accompanied by a berry scone. Worth the calories.
A word of caution for those of you who will visit Petersburg (or a known for those who already have): request Moorage closer in to the end of the dock near the HarborMaster’s office. Out at the end of the dock the wind, and specifically the currents, can be wicked. Last summer we got stuck out at the end of the dock and it took me three tries to get to the dock, and I had a kind soul helping us with our lines. Ideally you want to come into the north harbor as close to slack tide as possible. But this isn’t always possible. Our sailboat friends unfortunately got stuck out at the end of the dock and the fishing boat below hit them coming in yesterday. No amount of fenders could ward off this big boy, and it shows you how serious the currents can be. If this fishing boat couldn’t make it, heaven help us. Fortunately, it did not appear to do any damage to their boat but they still exchanged insurance information.
Petersburg North Harbor dock is convenient to town and has a certain vibe and flow to it. We really like coming here. The locals have a sense of humor as well.
And so the journey continues.
Here’s what “they” don’t want you to know:

Thanks for the great tips, Greg! Petersburg is where our flotilla disperses.
Debbie, you are welcome. Petersburg is a great town. I think you will enjoy it. BTW, if you cannot get a docking space deeper in the north marina just request the south dock. It’s a bit further of a walk into the main city but still close to everything, even closer to the Salty Pantry. Pretty much anywhere they would put you will be protected from the currents. Wishing you and all the other fellow Nordic tuggers a great Rendezvous. Please say hello to everyone for us.
