It’s summer solstice. There will be close to 20 hours of sunlight tonight. It’s forecast to be a sunny weekend. The sun is trying to peak out today.
One of the great opportunities in boating is meeting new people along the way. Two days ago Dan and Darcie came over to admire our boat and Dan asked me if the boat was brand new. Talk about making my day. Our boat was launched in 2006:). We invited them on the boat for a tour and found out that they were originally from North Dakota, not too far from where my grandparents (on both sides) had their family farms. One thing led to another and we ended up getting invited out to dinner last night and then received a tour of their beautiful home on the water in Petersburg overlooking the Wrangell Narrows.
Tomorrow we are meeting them on our boat for breakfast and then getting a tour of Mitkof island and the surrounding landmarks. We are really looking forward to it.
Greg and Marlene are the best! They have led the coolest of lives and they are wonderful people. We had a lot of fun today touring the island and talking. I hope they come back next summer and we’ll do more cool stuff, like ATV rides. Safe voyage back south.
