We decided to spend a second night in Sointula. Between the 40 hours of cruising over the past four days, combined with crossing Cape Caution and then having a fishing boat hit us we decided we needed a rest. Besides today’s forecast was not as good as tomorrow’s for cruising to Blind Channel. Before breakfast we decided to move the boat to an adjacent dock. This is where we were before:
Sitting—as in Duck—behind Foxy Lady II. I was scared that he was going to try and take a second go at our boat. When Marlene saw the 42 Nordic Tug leaving at 9:00 am on the other dock we decided to move, and move quickly before another boat moved in.
We now on the front of the other dock positioned to leave in the morning. I filed the claim with the owner of Foxy Lady’s insurance company, providing pictures, and more importantly, witnesses to the accident, as in the Captain of the local Coast Guard auxiliary group. We will wait until we are back in Anacortes to get an estimate and go from there. Dealing with a different country may be a challenge but it’s worth the effort.
Once we moved in to our new dock position I made breakfast and then we went out for a long walk into town and along the waterfront trail.
There is quite a bit of local “road art” positioned along the trail.
We also found this “fixer upper” for sale. I was pretty interested but Marlene said it would take a bit too much work to bring it back to its former glory.
It may be a “once in a lifetime opportunity” so if any of you are interested you can zoom into the photo for more details and the phone number.
Tomorrow we will make the 8 hour journey down Johnstone Strait. The weather is predicted to be pretty reasonable, but this Strait can get nasty (as we have experienced) so we will check the weather predictions again in the morning to double check our plan. We plan to cut the time in the Strait by taking the cut off at Fanny Island and making our way through Whirlpool Rapids and hit Green Point Rapids at the 3PM Slack. These rapids are not as critical as Dent and Yaculta Rapids in terms of timing as their flow is much less, but since Blind Channel is right around the corner form Green Point Rapids it is always nice to come in there near slack tide as the currents can flow pretty good in there. We were going to only stay one night but some good friends of ours are also going to be there on Saturday so we decided to just stay there and additional night and have dinner with them. We will then work our way down the Strait of Georgia and return to the “boating Disneyland” of the Gulf and San Juan Islands! We are hoping to meet up with some other friends for at least one night in Todd Inlet near Butchart Gardens in
Brentwood Bay, and then head HOME!!
