Juneau, Thursday June 6, 2024
Our friends, Mike and Jackie took us on a tour of Juneau today starting with the Mendenhall Glacier. This glacier is about 13 miles long and located in the Mendenhall Valley, roughly twelve miles from Juneau. In the US Forest Service Park there are several hikes, one of which takes you to the Nugget falls which is quite impressive.
They then drove us to Auke Bay to enjoy the beautiful bay and marina there.
We then went to a wonderful lunch and onto the nearby Shrine of St Therese which is a beautiful Catholic Church on the water built in the early 1900s. It is often used as a retreat center for good reason.
We returned to our boat late afternoon and went for a walk in town then returned for a quiet evening in. We are planning on taking in more of the native celebration tomorrow.
It’s great you spent some time with Jackie and hubby. I’m sure she was happy to see you and bring some news from “down south”.
