This is the resident eagle. We saw him when we were here in 2019. A lot has changed since COVID. The last time we were here there was a transient dock for boats in front of the harbor. Talking to Lynn, the office manger this morning, all that changed with COVID. The marina was fearful of dwindling revenue from the loss of boaters during the summer so they offered up the dock for permanent moorage. Makes sense but now Comox Valley Marina is just another marina of boats tightly packed in like sardines, where we “hot berth” in someone else’s permanent slip. It was fine, but just not the same as what we remember.
On the positive side Comox is a very nice town: clean, with a variety of coffee shops, speciality stores, and a great grocery store. We also discovered a nice park, The Filberg Park on the water complete with a petting zoo for kids.
Many of the original buildings are still standing including the Filberg home which is now a lodge and gift store.
Tomorrow we are off to Nanaimo. The weather predictions and apps are showing favorable conditions. But that was what we saw over the previous two days when the weather conditions were nasty and we got beat up. Keeping our fingers crossed as we finish up the Straits of Georgia, that LAST big piece of water before we return to home port
Pretty sure a gnome lives here.
Now why would a nome live in a biffy? 😀😁
