“The Hills are alive with the sound of music….” Wait, wrong country, but it felt like it. I kept looking for Julie Andrews.
Cannery Cove is a beautiful anchorage. There is just enough room for about 5 boats in good holding mud at around 50 feet. We arrived here about 11 am. We left Portage Bay at 7 am. The goal for the cruise today was to see whales. Marlene saw one, when of course, I was in the loo. What I did see was stunning scenery albeit set against the following cruise ship.
Here in the bay there is a reasonably large fishing lodge. Patrons arrive by float plane.
This is Pybus Point Lodge where all the guests are brought in by float plane (of course as one does). Sometimes the lodges allow boat guests to come in for dinner. We sent out a text flyer to see if we could dine with them tomorrow night. Time will tell.
Sport fishing for us is catching large horse flys—that bite—with our bug zapper ratchet. It was great fun this afternoon. I fried at least a dozen flies. Sports fishers have nothing on me:)
We watched a professional crabbing boat drop dozens of pots in the bay at slack tide. We dropped our pot along side his fleet. After three hours we checked our pot. We are on the right track, wrong gender. We are going to let our pot soak for the night and check it in the morning. Keeping our fingers crossed.
This bay is so beautiful we have decided to stay another night. Stay tuned for more updates on this beautiful bay.
Those horse flies alone would dissuade me from the trip not to mention rough weather. However, it does look beautiful.
