Happy Fourth of July to our friends and family. Petersburg is a quaint town with a great retro vibe to it. It almost feels like you are back in the 50s/60s. The parade today definitely reminded us of times gone by. The townspeople come out to celebrate the occasion with local floats and fanfare.
Here is a guy that has assembled an Xtratuff bicycle. For those of you who are not familiar with XtraTufs they are an Alaska standard; wellies or rain boots by any other name. They keep you feet dry during rainy super wet days.
Next up was Smokey the Bear. As you can see he had a handler. Not sure if that was because he couldn’t see or all bears need handlers. I’ll leave this one up to you.
But our favorite by far was the nursing home bus. Residents were seated in the bus smiling and waving and there were pictures of themselves presented on the outside of the vehicle. It made us smile.
The rest of the parade was filled with fire engines, a trolling boat, and some antique cars. Booths offering foods and trinkets lined the sides of the streets with townspeople taking it all in. One little boy of not more than four years old looked up at his mom and said, “This is the best day of my life.” Very sweet.
We took a nice beach walk this morning before the parade. We will spend the afternoon starting to look at our next destination and weather conditions.
Looks like Maybury USA. Only thing missing was Don Knotts.
Vera, indeed. No Don Knotts but plenty of Opies. 😂
