It was a disappointing day. This morning we had a diver check the Bow Thruster Chamber to make sure there was no blockage; there wasn’t. And we had him clean the bottom of the boat where the transducer gets it depth reading. When we fired up the boat we still didn’t have depth. Nor, when I tried the bow thruster is was still just a clicking sound—no thrusting.
We have decided to carry on to Ketchikan where we hope we will be able to find a boat yard and a mechanic who can assist us with our repairs. This will require pulling the boat out of the water to install a new transducer and determine if the bow thruster motor can be repaired or a new Thruster will be required. We have already sent out the specs for the equipment we require and will keep our fingers crossed that the equipment is available and can be quickly air shipped to Ketchikan.
We enjoyed the town of Price Rupert. The locals are very friendly and the staff here in the Prince Rupert Yacht and Rowing Club are very helpful and accommodating. The manager, Kevin is a wealth of local boating knowledge. He sat down with us this morning to discuss our intended float plan for tomorrow: a 6:00 am departure for Foggy Bay, then on from there the next day to Ketchikan.
The food here has been amazing. Everything is fresh and inventive, from pub food to Sushi, fantastic.
We will be back here on our return south. But for now we have our sights on Alaska.
