We are back in the land of plentiful and BIG boats. Cortez Bay is the location of one of Seattle Yacht Clubs outstations, and also a Royal Vancouver Yacht Club outstation.

It’s a popular destination complete with a float plane that flies in daily to deliver and pick up guests.

We like the spot because it is good anchorage, easy to get to, and quiet. This afternoon soon after we arrived we went to shore for an hour long walk. It felt great to stretch our legs.

Tomorrow we are off to John Henry Marina in Pender Harbor BC. Our cruise today was pretty uneventful thanks to Marlene’s excellent navigation skills. This morning we had three potentially dangerous rapids to navigate our way through: Dent Rapids, Guillard Passage and Yuculta Rapids. When these areas of water are not at slack tide (that short period of time between the tide coming in and going out) the water flows through so rapidly (hence the rapids) that the water is very dangerous to navigate. Add to this the fact that the tide flows in the opposite direction on each side. In Dent Rapids the ebbing tide is traveling North, and in Yuculta Rapids the ebbing tide is traveling South. Marlene timed our arrival perfectly to arrive at slack as close as possible in each successive area, and we had a relatively smooth passage through. Another Strait tomorrow: Malpensa. We are keeping our fingers crossed on a smooth crossing. The current prediction looks good. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Final note. We dined out our “billion dollar” salmon tonight, named because it was given to us by a billionaire we met in Sullivan Bay who gave us his fresh catch. Over the next three days we spent time with him and his wife, unassuming wonderful couple. It’s amazing who you meet here out on the water.
