We departed Shoalwater Pass this morning around 7:00am. This was our second time in this cove and it was even more beautiful than we remembered. We were the only boat anchored there last night, which always makes the evening even more special. As we resumed our journey north we decided to pass on trying to get the buoy in Punchbowl and proceed on to Walker Cove. Our intended arrival time was 10:30 AM and we did not see a single other vessel on our cruise. The picture above is the entrance to Walker Cove. It is a breathtakingly beautiful fjord. This inlet also has only 1 mooring buoy and it is located near the end of the inlet. Because this is a fjord places to anchor are limited and very deep (over 90 ft) . We’ve never been in here before, so we wanted to take the 40 minute cruise to the end of the inlet anyway and check out the buoy to see if it was free. If it wasn’t our plan was to enjoy the view then head North to the next inlet that does have appropriate anchorage available. Lo and behold this time around we were in luck and the above picture is our view! Yea!!

We were greeted at the entrance by a large log with a gaggle of birds.

The good news is we DID get the buoy. This is a view from our boat to the shore where we will keep a lookout for bears who apparently frequent the landscape on a regular basis. After lunch we went for a paddle on our tandem kayak heading to a water fall not far away. Unless the weather changes we are intending to stay two nights and enjoy this magical place.

Now this is an Alaska hardened, substantial buoy. Our boat is not going anywhere!!!

Scenery reminds me of New Zealand and Norway.
