This never happens, but yesterday it did. We left John Henry Marina in Pender Harbor yesterday morning at 6:00 a.m. The “forecast” was for a reasonably mild crossing with the wind on our back. The picture above tells it all. This was taken about half way through our cruise across the Strait. It was a beautiful smooth cruise. We sailed from the fly bridge and enjoyed a crossing unlike any we have ever had on the Strait of Georgia. The water so smooth that we decided to proceed on the outside of Galiano Island enroute to Ganges. The most excitement we had was coming into Salt Spring Marina here in Ganges on a very low tide. Our boat draws 4.5 feet but I have the alarm set at 6 feet. As we rounded the entrance near the shore it was going off and showing me a depth of 4.5 feet. Gulp!! It only lasted a few seconds—that seemed like minutes—and then we were fine.

I really wanted to come to Ganges for the Saturday market, which we did. Marlene wanted to come to Ganges to return to our favorite restaurant, Feast, which we did as well.

Feast is a true farm to table restaurant serving up fresh, inventive, amazing food. Our dish last night was fresh Halibut done with fennel, fresh vegetables and boiled potatoes. WOW! This truely is a a foodie delight. We highly recommend it.

Ganges is well known as an “alternative” island filled with artisans, artists, restaurants and a few Cannabis shops. This Taco grill is right next door to one of the shops. We think the owner may be imbibing a bit too much. Read the sign carefully. 😊.

Tomorrow morning we are set to return home. It will take us just shy of six hours to get from Ganges to Anacortes Marina. It may be a bit of a breezy cruise but nothing to worry about. And, oh yes, Marlene already checked the tide level for our departure. We will have 9 feet. It has been an exciting trip, sometimes a little too exciting (and WET), however Tradition has preformed like a champ and we are all ready to have a few days off, back in our bed (or berth), to get ready for the next adventure!
Congrats on the fabulous crossing! Still WET here! Are you going to the mini vous in Ganges in September?
