Alaska Bound 2024

Sunday June 29th, 2025 Your first reaction is going to be there is nothing amazing about this picture. And you would be correct, however, for the past 5 days we have not been able to see land on the other side or even the channel. It has been a socked in, misty haze, filled with … Read More “I can see clearly now, the rain has gone!” »

Alaska Bound 2024

Friday June 27, 2025 Ketchikan truly is a city of eagles. Everywhere you turn eagles abound. Staying here in the North Harbor the unique cackle and piercing shrill whistles of eagles can be heard in the morning and throughout the day. When I step outside the door several are perched high above in the masts … Read More “Ketchikan City of Eagles” »

Alaska Bound 2024

Thursday, June 26th, 2025 Let’s start with the sour. It’s been raining non-stop for the lasts 3 days. While the rest of the country is under a heat wave, including the PNW, locals tell us this is “hands down” the wettest summer they have seen in Alaska. OK, enough of the “I’m tired of the … Read More “Ketchikan: A Sour and Sweet Day” »

Wednesday June 25th, 2025 Not much to report today other than a rainy day here in Ketchikan. We put on our rain gear this morning and walked into town. Tomorrow we have our mechanic, Tom coming to work on our Bow Thruster. Yea. Keeping our fingers crossed that it is an easy fix. Stay tuned.

June 24, 2025 This is a picture of Meyer’s Chuck Harbor at twilight. Two Nordhavns arrived around 5:00 pm. The dock was full and they were far too large so they both anchored out. We set our alarm for 6:00 am to look at the weather forecasts for cruising to Ketchikan either today or Wednesday. … Read More “Continuing South: Arrived in Ketchikan” »

Monday June 23rd, 2025 We had a wonderful night in Wrangell watching the fishing boats come in to the processing plant delivering their crab and fish. It was a sunny evening and many of the boats that came in were family boats, literally, Mom, Dad, and the baby in diapers. Needless to say all these … Read More “Arrived in Meyer’s Chuck: Mother Nature’s Surprise” »

Sunday June 22nd, 2025 We hated to leave Petersburg. Our new friends, Dan and Darcie made it a truly special place, giving us the opportunity to experience all the different hiking trails along with commentary about the history of the island. This is a great picture of Darcie and Marlene. We love these folks!! Such … Read More “A night in Wrangell: Heading South” »

Saturday June 21st 2025 Wow. What an incredible day. Dan and Darcie met us on our boat for my fresh baked banana bread and “critically acclaimed” rhubarb jam then took us on a tour of Mitkof island. Our first stop was Fish Locks. No fish yet. They show up late July or early August. Next … Read More “Last Day in Petersburg: Touring the Island” »

Alaska Bound 2024

Thursday June 19th, 2025 It’s been a pretty quiet day here in Petersburg. I like the weather app “Weather Underground” for giving me a reasonably accurate prediction of the weather. When I looked at it over coffee this morning the report was for a window of opportunity without rain from 8 to noon. “OK Marlene … Read More “Rainy Day in Petersburg” »
