We left Port McNeill this morning bound for a four and a half hour cruise to Allison Harbor. This is our third time in this magical, secluded cove. It was an easy cruise with very little wind or waves—just as predicted. We went deep in the harbor and dropped anchor at around 10:15. It is now 4:30 p.m. and the sun is shinning and we are the ONLY boat in the harbor. At this point I think we will have Allison Harbor all to ourselves tonight. We are planning our departure at first light tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. We have a 6 and a half hour cruise to Hecate Inlet. The morning wind and waves are expected to be similar, but the weather degrades quickly in the afternoon. We plan to be tucked in and anchored well before the weather degrades.
And now a shout out to tech, specifically, our Starlink Dish. Where we are currently anchored there is absolutely NO cellular coverage and very spotty VHF radio transmission. But this is our Starlink coverage.
This is fiber speed. Pretty amazing. It gives us—specifically Marlene—great peace of mind knowing that regardless of where we go, we will have fantastic coverage.
So what does one do all day on a hook 🪝? Read, take a nap, and in Marlene’s case sew. She is currently working on English Paper Pieced quilt featuring Frida Kahlo themed fabric that she has been collecting for years. For myself I have been reading Icelantic mystery novels. A quilter from Marlene’s guild gave me a book from the following novelist.
He’s a Scandinavian Harlan Coben. The book I was given was “Jar City.” I am now tucking in to Silence of the Grave. I also found another author.
I discovered this author at Munro’s book store during our recent visit in Victoria. BTW, if you find yourself in Victoria definitely take in this bookstore. It is fantastic. Well stocked, knowledgeable staff and filled with everything from art books to novels of every flavor.
I’m going to stop here. It’s almost cocktail hour. We will spend it on our enclosed flybridge taking in the beautiful cove and sun. We will turn in early tonight for our biggest cruise of this season tomorrow, rounding Cape Caution.

We can see you on Navionics just crossing Cape Cod and there are two Canadian government boats including a larger Coast Guard vessel nearby.
Karen, for a hot minute we thought that the Coast Guard was coming after us. I was going to plead my case to not board me while I’m rounding Cape Town.
